FAQ
Font Licensing FAQ
Power Type™ Foundry offers four license tiers to cover a wide range of use cases. If you don't find an answer below, contact us to request a custom license.
Which license tier do I need?
We offer four tiers — Standard, Extra, Extended, and Super — available for individual styles or full families. Each tier covers a broader scope of use than the previous one. The sections below describe what each use case requires.
Desktop Use
Can I install the font on my computer?
Yes. All license tiers permit desktop installation for design, document creation, and print work on the number of workstations appropriate to your tier. The Standard License is suitable for individuals and small studios; larger teams or organizations should consider Extra, Extended, or Super.
Web Embedding
Can I use the font on a website?
Web embedding (via @font-face or hosted font services) is permitted under all license tiers. Higher tiers cover higher monthly pageview volumes. If your site grows beyond your current tier's allowance, you should upgrade to the next tier.
App Embedding
Can I use the font inside a mobile or desktop app?
App embedding — where the font is bundled inside an application — requires at minimum an Extra License. The Extended and Super tiers cover larger user bases and commercial-scale distribution. If you are unsure which tier fits your app's audience size, reach out and we'll advise you.
Logos & Branding
Can I use the font to create a logo or brand identity?
Yes. Logo and brand identity use is permitted under all license tiers. However, if the logo will be used as part of a product sold to third parties (e.g., merchandise or resale), please see the relevant sections below.
Client Work
Can I use the font for client projects?
Yes. All tiers permit use in client deliverables such as printed materials, presentations, and static graphics. If the deliverable involves web or app embedding on the client's platform, the appropriate web or app tier applies — and the license should be held by the party doing the embedding.
User Counts & Pageviews
How are user counts and pageviews calculated?
For desktop use, user count refers to the number of individuals who will have the font installed. For web use, pageviews refer to the monthly page impressions served using the font. Your license tier sets the upper limit; if you exceed it, upgrading to the next tier is required. Specific numeric thresholds are listed on each product page.
Merchandise
Can I print the font on products I sell (T-shirts, posters, etc.)?
Merchandise use — where the font design itself is a significant visual element of a physical product for sale — requires an Extended License or higher. Standard and Extra licenses do not cover merchandise production for resale.
Resale & Redistribution
Can I resell or redistribute the font files?
No. Resale or redistribution of the original font files is not permitted under any license tier. A license grants you the right to use the font, not to resell or share the font files themselves. If you need to bundle fonts in a product (e.g., a design template pack), please contact us for a custom arrangement.
Custom Licenses
My use case isn't covered — what do I do?
We're happy to discuss custom license arrangements for broadcast, large-scale app distribution, OEM embedding, SaaS products, education, and other specialized uses. Send us a message describing your project and we'll put together a tailored quote.
